3 Business Casual Staples For The Woman On The Go
Despite working from home on most days, I love being able to dress up on occasion to head to a co-work space or coffee shop to break up my routine. Quick business looks allow me the freedom to look stylish and comfortable at the same time. Let’s discuss how to dress business casual in a pandemic.
Fashion has a special place in my heart. I love seeing trends and creating fun Pinterest boards. Yet, the pandemic has shifted my style drastically.
Can you relate?
The fun around going places for work isn’t the same. The TrunkClub article called Work-From-Home Wardrobe Essentials: How To Dress When You're Remote stated it correctly, “It's hard to feel motivated when you roll out of bed and work in your sweats. That's why getting dressed for work can mean the difference between a productive work from home day and a challenging one. Aim for an outfit that you feel comfortable in but would still feel good about wearing out of the house. Make sure it's consistent with what you'd typically wear to the office. You want to appear ready to get work done, not lounge around.”
I wanted to share some tips on how to dress business casual. I had the opportunity to try out Rent The Runway to jazz up my minimalist wardrobe.
My must-have on the go fashion pieces for busy women are a functional computer bag, comfortable shoes, and flattering winter coats.
Business Casual Look #1: Functional Bag
I don’t know about you. It can be challenging to find a computer bag that is cute enough to use every day yet functional to keep everything organized. Lo & Son computer bag checks off all of the essential wants.
Lo & Son prides itself on design and innovation in its industry. They have several lines focused on eco-friendly materials. The O.G 2 was designed with smart features and lightweight materials that make it easy to use for work to play. This bag features high quality, fine-weave, water-resistant nylon. The special touches like the water-resistant zippers and Nappa leather accents provide a polished look.
The bag features a compartment for your laptop and work materials. The interior and exterior sections sold me on the functionality. I love to bring layering options when visiting co-work spaces. You can easily store shoes in the side shoe compartment. No one wants to have to carry a ton of bags to get work done. The Lo & Son O.G 2 keeps you organized and stylish at the same time.
Business Casual Look #2: Comfortable Shoes
The old days of business fashion for women being so bland and stiff are in our past. Unless dull and stiff are your thing. Lol. We have beautiful options to express our style and individuality. Comfortable shoes are essential for making it through the day.
Rothys Mary Janes perfect for the woman on the go. I’m a massive fan of the Rothys brand. There’s been a lot of buzz around this shoe brand being constructed out of repurposed bottles. According to Rothys website, “Every minute, one million water bottles are sold globally, which is why we knit our styles to shape with recycled materials like plastic water bottles. Our specialized 3D knitting technology allows us to minimize waste while maximizing our impact on the planet—and look great while doing it.” It’s a sustainable shoe brand built with quality.
The size and color ranges make it more inclusive. I’m a proud member of the larger feet committee. Rothys sizes range from size 5 to 13. The Mary Jane style comes in 9 colors. The cinnamon goes great as a pop of color with my neutral wardrobe.
Business Casual Look #3: Flattering winter coat
Flattering will differ according to body type and personal preferences. This winter has had extreme temperatures. I love wearing my wool and textured winter coats.
I decided to mix up my wardrobe with some jackets from Rent the Runway for this time around. It was fun to pick jackets that dress up my solid winter wardrobe. You can find inspiration from brands such as J Crew, Derek Lam, and NVLT.
NBC News did an excellent article on 9 best women's winter coats 2020: Best winter jackets for women. They did state the bomber jacket is the best option for the winter. Also, the article did state, “As always, how you’ll use the coat or jacket dictates which one is best for you — you likely don’t want to hit the slopes in a peacoat or attend a formal affair in a bomber puffer.”
Selecting the perfect winter coat for you can be done on platforms like Rent The Runway or Poshmark.
Conclusion
The best practice for choosing your work from home style is authentically selecting pieces that work for you. You want to choose things that make you feel confident, comfortable, and in control. Female entrepreneurs have enough on our plates already.
