3 Things You Don’t Want To Hear About Decluttering
Are you finding yourself overwhelmed with just having things on top of things? Decluttering or purging can feel like a daunting task.
In actuality, your chest may have gotten tight JUST from the thought around giving up “stuff”. I can truly empathize with you. I used to find myself attached to personal stuff. I was Ms Queen “What If” on shoes and clothing.
Decluttering isn’t only for those extreme cases on Hoarders. My collection of things was never to that extent yet I can admit it was not a healthy habit. I want to give you some truths around Decluttering. It doesn’t have to be a curse word. It doesn’t have to mean having nothing.
I’ve been embracing the minimalist lifestyle for the last two years. I’ve been exploring the “trend” for around 4 years before committing. Some of the tips provided in this blog can help ease the stress or anxiety around removing clutter.
I do encourage you to take a moment to think about how your world and day to day would look with a simpler approach.
Decluttering has made space for creativity, a renewed mindset, and relief. Let’s dig into these three benefits to letting go!!!
Woosah!!!!
It creates space for creativity
Most likely, you may find this hard to believe. Are you one of those people that I have a “system” in stuff? I’ve found even with a system clutter blocks creativity. Inspiration needs a breeding ground. I find myself often distracted by stuff. It can be moving things around to creating more lists to purchasing more notebooks.
Removing junk from your closet, office or desk never fails to jump-start those creative juices. When things are in disarray, I find myself overwhelmed, flustered, and unmotivated. It’s a polite way of saying a hot mess! LOL. Trust me when I say motivation and inspiration doesn’t come from chaos.
Try to clear out one space from excess. It can be something as simple as your bathroom vanity or medicine cabinet. I’m sure you will have a different outlook.
It gives a refreshed mindset
Creativity and a renewed mindset goes hand in hand. They may seem the same. Our mindset encompasses the difference from empowered to disempowered. I’ve spoken to several friends about the minimalist lifestyle. One thing that comes up, how clutter leaves people resigned in their life’s work.
Your skills are needed in the world. I want to see you operating and vibrating at your best frequency.
It feels good afterward
It may sounds weird. Yet it’s true! We always over exaggerate in our minds. I can’t be the only person that thinks cleaning a bathroom takes 3 hours. Or making the bed takes forever. Lol. Let’s be really real. The act of decluttering doesn’t feel as horrible as we think.
Courtney Carver’s blog on “Busting Your Biggest Clutter Fears” states, ‘I can tell you from personal experience, that in the past few years of selling and donating more than 50% of my stuff, I’ve never once missed anything I let go of, or regretted my decision to give something away. In fact, each thing I let go of gave me momentum and confidence to let the next thing go.’
The key is taking the first step. You will really find benefits to just letting go. Believe me! It’s one of those unforgettable moments.
I hope these points sparked the curiosity around letting go. It does not have to start out with an extreme cleaning. Start little section by little section.
