Ohhhh, the resolution posts are buzzing all over social media. People are making declarations towards healthy eating habits to trips to relationships. I thought, why not discuss how to use your new outlook for 2021 to start saving money.

People can find budgeting restrictive and limiting. The whole "I worked hard enough to spend it; however, I want" mindset feels like an epidemic. Don't get me wrong. You can spend your money however you choose.

I do want to pose a challenge or food for thought. What if you could aggressively save to purchase your dream home or invest in your business? Strict budgets are beneficial for short to long term goals.

If you are interested, I would highly recommend checking out my recent Youtube video. I discuss tips for staying focused on your 2021 financial goals. The benefit to the minimalist lifestyle comes from the mindset around things.

I've improved my credit score, travel, and other things by adjusting my relationship with money. My money journey has had ups and downs. My first real experience happened when I started working for myself. It's something about a steady paycheck that can cause more loss spending habits.

My main saving goals for 2021 are:

  • Paying off 50% of my student loans

  • Saving up $10K for my first transitional home project

  • Paying off credit card debt

  • Rebuilding my savings

I want to keep it transparent with you. All debt is not bad debt. My goal is to have a healthy balance between business debt and investments.

Money matters are not often openly discussed in black households. I did not have the best relationship with money. I thought it would be helpful to start the conversation.

Over the next few weeks, I will be hosting various Clubhouse chats discussing finances. I have several friends in Accounting to Finance who agree to partner on these rooms. We are planning personal and business finance chats to help normalize talking about money. Not the grinding always part of money—the how to manage it better conversation.

If you would like to join our conversations, please comment or send me a message on Instagram.
